The First Day:Sparrows
Today starts the first day of my new blog...hooray! Being the first posting I must explain what my grand idea is with writing this blog. Each day I will include a picture of my socks and a few things that happened throughout my day. As in real life some days may be more entertaining than others, but each day will be a small glimpse into my life.
-At a stoplight today I looked over and made eye contact with a kid dressed up as The Statue of Liberty, he was working for Liberty Tax. The eye contact must have encouraged him to get even zanier with his dancing around antics, which just made me laugh out loud.
-Today was laundry day. I decided to use the laundromat close to work as it is newer and cleaner. It also has chattier people. Most of my friends know that if I am out in public it is inevitable that someone odd is going to talk to me. Today was no exception. First was the lady who filled me in about her boyfriend in jail, her daughter buying dog food from China, and her own dog a Lhasa Apso, that had a litter of puppies but they were just mutts because the Lhasa had dated a number of different dogs. The short list apparently included a German Shepherd, a Pit bull, and a Labrador. The fact that she used the word dated actually led my imagination off in a direction that involved wondering what a "dog date" would look like. Did the Lhasa get all gussied up? Did the Shepherd show up with flowers? Did they walk around the park or chase squirrels? I was taken all the way back to the movie Lady and the Tramp. No doubt they shared a plate of spaghetti and meatballs that ended up in a their snouts touching.
Second was a guy who lost his ring while putting his clothes into the wash. Which meant he had to take out all his clothes and shake them out. Once he'd found the ring he rushed over immediately to tell me he'd found it and show me the ring. I assume this is because I responded to his original tale of woe with, "well, I sure hope you find your ring." We then discussed the fact that while the ring was not worth much it had sentimental value. During this discussion the laundry dictator walked into the laundromat. No mustache or uniform gave her away, but rather a shrill voice and a demeanor that gave off the air of importance. She needed a washer and was perturbed by the fact that all washers seemed to be occupied. She marched around pointing to washers that contained clothes but were not yet started, "who is using this washer," she barked. A woman who'd been bringing in garbage bags full of clothes for the past hour owned them. "Well your washer is not washing, when are you putting your money and soap in this machine?" She jutted her chin and retorted, "when I'm good and ready." A dark-haired boy who been engrossed in his notebook and mobile phone grinned at the stance that had been taken against the laundry bully.
-At the mall today a blind man used his cane to lift up the back of my skirt as I walked by, so I'm guessing not blind, or at least not legally.
-Well I hope you enjoy the small glimpses into my life and sock drawer. Should you see a pair that you must own simply click on the picture, but I warn you it's hard to stop with just one pair! Any picture without a link sadly means that they are no longer available, but be sure to check out local businesses that stock Sock It To Me Socks!

1) Where did you get all your socks from?
ReplyDelete2) You DO always seem to get the weirdos - but I do too, need I remind you of the Barnes and Noble incident to which you were a witness? And our creation of the SR, MR?
3) I miss you!!!!
1. Sock It To Me Socks are my favorite. Hello my name is Elissa and I'm an addict. But they are a local Portland company, which makes me happy to support them :)
ReplyDelete2. I do remember that night at the bookstore ;) You forgot GR!
3. I miss you too!
First of all, I LOVE the pic. Only to you would one say their dog 'dated' a lot of other dogs. Laundromats are always an interesting experience. And...Why on earth do you get a blind person lifting up your skirt with his cane??? That's totally something you'd see in a movie...or in your life as Elissa :)
ReplyDeleteJust lucky I guess.
